Washington Insider Arrives in Time for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner

By Chris Ariens

With the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner nearly upon us, WHC Insider, the Washington-based website that is all things WHCA, has launched a podcast series. The goal of Washington Insider, as it’s called, is “to show how the sausage is made,” says WHC Insider co-founder Tammy Haddad.

Haddad, a former NBC News and MSNBC executive producer, who now heads up her own production company, is partnering with Simon Marks, president of Feature Story News, which produces news content for a variety of clients, and documentary filmmaker Julianne Donofrio.

Recent podcast guests include Jon Favreau and Jon Lovett, former White House speechwriters who talked about what goes into writing a presidential speech where humor comes first. Because the podcasts run up to 40 minutes, they are truly for the political junkie who can’t get enough of hearing about the inner workings of this star-studded weekend.

“They are from the inside,” Haddad says about the podcasts. “They give people a flavor of the details of what’s happening.”

And when the WHCA festivities wind down at the end of the weekend, the attention will turn to the 2016 elections. WHC Insider is also launching a podcast called Trail Talk. Taking part in the series is Betsy Fischer Martin the longtime executive producer of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” who departed the show in 2013. The series will include interviews with candidates and other power players on the trail.

The first podcasts can be found on AudioBoom and iTunes.
