Velez-Mitchell on Octomom : “We’re Doing it for Ratings”

“Today during State of the Union with John King, CNN’s Reliable Sources host Howard Kurtz” (this is how it’s written in the CNN release) talked about octomom Nadya Suleman with Bonnie Fuller and HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell.

Velez-Mitchell was honest about the reason Suleman inundated news coverage this week. “This idea that we’re all doing this for some altruistic purpose is nonsense,” she said. “We’re doing it for ratings and let’s be real about that.”

Kurtz noted Velez-Mitchell has “been talking about this constantly on cable for more than a week.”

“I blame the media,” she said. “For decades we’ve been acting like the cheerleading squad for these extremely large families…So we have to look at ourselves in the mirror and realize that a lot of the messages that we send for our own selfish purposes are extremely irresponsible.”
