Vargus/Woodruff: Morning Papers

By Brian

I’ll add to this list throughout the morning…

> Johnnie Roberts, Newsweek: “In selecting its co-anchors to succeed Peter Jennings at World News Tonight, ABC has boldly acknowledged the harsh new realities of television news. The freshest news now comes from the Internet — not the evening broadcast. And, for the bottom line, those morning shows are unequivocally more important financially than the half-hour evening network reports.”

> Jacques Steinberg and Bill Carter, NY Times: “The announcement of a new team was apparently so hasty that ABC had to release a corrected version of its news release yesterday afternoon, having gotten several details wrong, including the date the new team would start – Jan. 3, not Jan. 2, as the network originally said.”
