ABC News anchor Elizabeth Vargas will explore the efforts of Michele and Joe Assad, who are planning the evacuation of Iraqi Christian refugees fleeing ISIS who have given them the choice: convert to Islam or suffer penalties that can be as extreme as execution.
“This was a rescue mission that was risky and bold and nearly didn’t happen. To ride that roller coaster of hope and anguish with these 149 refugees was dramatic, Vargas told TVNewser. “It’s a small but important window into what millions of refugees are enduring this holiday season.”
