Vargas Kept Pregnancy Quiet For A Month

“This was about as unplanned as it gets,” Elizabeth Vargas says of her pregnancy in today’s Philadelphia Inquirer. “I was shocked. I had just signed on to a brand-new job that I was thrilled to have… Also, at 43 and a half, it’s not like I was thinking, ‘Let’s get pregnant.'”

Vargas and her husband got the pregnancy news about 10 days before she and Bob Woodruff debuted on Jan. 3, but she kept it quiet.

“Truth be told, I was a little nervous about telling anybody,” she says.

“She had planned to inform ABC around mid-February, she says, but when Woodruff was seriously injured in a roadside bomb blast in Iraq on Jan. 29, she told her bosses immediately that she was with child…”
