Charles Gibson is the “notably restrained voice” amid chaos at Virginia Tech, Alessandra Stanley writes in a must-read NYT column.

In case you haven’t seen it: “Network anchors often behave as if they are the nation’s grief counselors. One reason that Mr. Gibson has been gaining in the ratings could be that he acts like the nation’s newsman,” she says.

“Stanley nails it,” an e-mailer says. “In the prescient way that she captured a specific TV ‘moment’ a couple of years ago with her vicious but spot-on attack on Katie Couric, this article does exactly the same but in a positive way…”
