Update: ABC News In North Korea

By Brian

Following up on this week’s reports about ABC News in North Korea:

> Paul Gough has the inside story of how it happened: Paul Slavin says David Westin’s February visit sealed the deal. “Don’t underestimate the power of the president of the news division visiting the country,” Slavin said. “When David did that, that really helped secure access because they saw how serious we were. David is a terrific diplomat.”

> Also from THR: “There were no conditions outside of the fact that we were going to be accompanied by a North Korean official,” Slavin says. “There’s always somebody with them.”

> Bob Woodruff reported from the DMZ on Friday. ABCNews.com doesn’t have any reports from Saturday…

> The conservative Media Research Center says: “North Koreans are isolated from outside information and fed a steady diet of anti-American propaganda, but that apparently doesn’t make the anti-American comments from regime operatives, or citizens with minders standing nearby, unnewsworthy to ABC.”
