Univision Chief Gets Top Journalism Award

By Chris Ariens

Isaac Lee will receive the National Association of Hispanic Journalist’s Presidential Award of Excellence at the journalism organization’s annual convention next month. Lee, who is Chief News and Digital Officer of Univision, is being honored for Univision’s “commitment to journalism affecting Latinos, African-Americans and all Americans with their unwavering support of Fusion and The Root.”

“Fusion has proven to not only be an excellent source of journalism in America, but its commitment to stories that represent the Latino and millennial perceptive is invaluable to the American conversation,” said Mekahlo Medina, NAHJ President. Univision acquired The Root last year. And earlier this year, it took full control of Fusion, following Disney/ABC’s departure from that joint venture.

The NAHJ is partnering with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) for a combined convention this year, held in Washington, DC August 3-7 and attended by 4,000 journalists from TV, radio, print, and digital media companies.
