‘Unfriendly Confines’: Rachel Maddow Interviews Kellyanne Conway

By Mark Joyella

When MSNBC host Rachel Maddow announced that Donald Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway would appear for an on-set interview, many expected good television, if not a solid discussion of Trump’s evolving stands on the issues. In the end, they got both.

The Washington Post—in an article annotating the entire interview—said Conway “gamely ventured into the unfriendly confines of Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show. What followed was a fascinating, lengthy back-and-forth over the importance of policy to Trump, among many other topics.”

CBS News’ Sopan Deb said “the entire Maddow/Conway interview is excellent,” while former MSNBC host Touré put it this way: “Watching Maddow drag Kellyanne Conway around like a rag doll. It’s not a fair fight.”

Even more intriguing were Conway’s suggestions Trump thought the interview was a “terrific idea,” and suggested that a Trump interview with Maddow could happen.
