Here are the immediate reactions from TV newsers just seconds after Pres. Trump’s speech ended. All seemed to react favorably to it, at least initially.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: “There you have it, the president’s first address to the joint session of Congress. The theme was: ‘Renewal of the American spirit.’ President says that his message is one of unity and strength, and he spoke for exactly an hour on Trump policies…”

CBS’s Scott Pelley: “A profoundly different speech from the president, without anger or blame. After his inaugural address in January that spoke of shuttered factories scattered like tombstones, and American carnage, this rested on words including ‘rebirth’ ‘hope,’ ‘opportunity…'”

NBC’s Lester Holt: “President Trump wrapping up his speech to a joint session of Congress exactly 1 hour in length with many interruptions of applause. President hitting the notes we heard in the campaign and early in his administration, including “America first…'”

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer: “President of the United States delivering an important and powerful speech, his tone clearly different than the speech that he gave at his inauguration. The president went through a whole range of issues, and his tone was far less inciteful than it was then.”

Fox News’s Bret Baier: “President Donald Trump in his first address to a joint session of Congress, speaking for about 60 minutes, and interrupted 94 times by applause. Standing ovations very rarely included Democrats in the chamber, with a few exceptions…”

MSNBC’s Brian Williams: “Just over an hour in length, Donald Trump delving into some soaring rhetoric there at the end. Easily the most traditional speech he has given in public life, the most speech-like speech, if you will. Some lofty promises, some lofty pledges there…”
