Trump on Roger Ailes: ‘It’s Very Sad Because He’s a Very Good Person’

In an interview Sunday morning on NBC’s Meet the Press, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump discussed the resignation last week of Fox News chairman Roger Ailes. “He’s been a friend of mine for a long time,” Trump told host Chuck Todd. “And I can tell you that some of the women that are complaining, I know how much he’s helped them.”

Ailes resigned two weeks after former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against her former boss. One of the network’s stars, Megyn Kelly, is believed to have told investigators she, too, was harassed by Ailes ten years ago.

“And now all of a sudden they’re saying these horrible things about him. It’s very sad. Because he’s a very good person,” Trump said Sunday. “I’ve always found him to be just a very, very good person,” Trump continued. “And by the way, a very, very talented person. Look what he’s done. So I feel very badly. But a lot of people are thinking he’s going to run my campaign.”

Trump said Ailes would not be running the campaign, however, because “it’s doing pretty well.”
