Football Night in America analyst Tony Dungy might not be long for the television world.
Newsday‘s Neil Best reports that while NBC brass wants to keep the coach around, “family matters might pull him away from the show in the next year or two.”
Dungy, a family man who serves as a national spokesman for All Pro Dad, has a son who is redshirting a year at Oregon but expects to play during the 2011 season. He thinks the logistics of communting could cause problems.
“I don’t know how that’s going to happen,” Dungy said. “We’ll see how my body feels and how my body goes. Down the road that could become an issue.”
On FNiA, Dungy offers the knowledge he gained while coaching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. He’s also become something of a moral arbiter, telling Reggie Bush he should return his Heisman trophy (he did) and Rex Ryan that he should stop swearing so much. (He didn’t.)
“It’s been a lot of fun,” Dungy said of the show. “It’s even more fun and more challenging this year as we find different things we can do.”
