Today: Ten Years & Counting

By Brian

It’s official: NBC’s Today Show has been “America’s #1 morning news program for ten years straight,” the network announced today. The broadcast has won every single week since the end of 1995.

Quoting the press release: “On Monday, December 11, 1995, NBC News’ Today reported on three feet of snow falling on Buffalo, N.Y., the U.S. Marines arriving in Bosnia, the Middle East as President Clinton prepared to meet with Israel’s new Prime Minister Shimon Peres, Michael Jackson, who was in the hospital after collapsing on-stage during a rehearsal, and MSN and NBC who were rumored to be in talks to start a 24-hour cable news channel. That day also began an unprecedented run in broadcast television — as it was the first day of Today’s 10-year, 520 consecutive week winning streak.”

> ‘Today’ started running commercials touting the 10 year reign this morning…
