Today Show Refreshes Its App

In celebration of Today’s 65th anniversary later this month, the NBC News digital team in partnership with HUGE agency redesigned the Today Show mobile app. The new and improved app went live this past Monday, and it looks pretty good. The app re-design includes multiple key improvements: A curated list of top ‘moments’ from the day (‘The Digest’), easier navigation and reorganization of app content, improved video within the app, and a brand new look. The revamped Today app is now available via the Apple store.

The Digest is the most notable addition to the app. It’s a daily, curated list that includes the best ‘moments’ from that day’s news and from the Today show in a quick and easy swipe-through format (think Snapchat). Each daily digest has 5-8 moments and will refresh every morning.

“For 65 years, Today has curated the news of the day for our audiences. This new app will deliver mobile-native content in a convenient, on-the-go experience to reach our fans wherever they are,” said Ashley Parrish, executive editor of Today Digital and NBC News Lifestyle.

There are two streamlined sections to help with app navigation: 1) Home and 2) Discover. The Home tab is a curated mix of videos, features and news headlines, while Discover puts Search, Sections and Favorites together for an easier way to access show content.

The video experience has been improved and elevated, and it’s now easier to find video clips throughout the app.

Lastly, the app has a brand new design. It’s a dark purple (“eggplant”) gradient to go along with the app’s established orange sunrise design.
