Tim Tebow Will Always Have a Home at ESPN

By Brian Flood

Tim Tebow is putting his television career on hold after signing a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday. The SEC Network analyst and GMA correspondent is receiving praise from both of his previous employers.

ESPN evp of programming and production John Wildhack issued the following statement on behalf of the network:

We appreciate Tim’s contributions to the launch of SEC Network and wish him all the best as he pursues his NFL dream. Tim quickly established a tremendous rapport with everyone he worked with in front of and behind the camera.   He has a tireless work ethic and a unique passion for football. Tim developed quickly into an excellent analyst. He has a home at ESPN when his playing career is done.

In addition, a “GMA” spokesperson tells TVNewser:

We are happy for Tim and wish him all the best of luck!

The key to all this is that Tebow will apparently be welcomed back at ESPN when his playing career is finished (the SEC Network is part of the ESPN family). The Eagles already have capable QBs Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez, in addition to former USC star Matt Barkley. It’s far from a sure thing that Tebow makes the final roster when the Eagles break camp late this summer, but the networks are clearly letting him pursue his dream.

Meanwhile, people in the industry have questioned why Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer broke the story of an ESPN/ABC employee leaving the company instead of, you know, an ESPN or ABC reporter.
