Tim Gaughan Leaving Bloomberg for CBS News

First on TVNewser: Bloomberg’s head of newsgathering, Tim Gaughan, is leaving the cable channel to join CBS News as director of digital newsgathering and senior producer, special events. Gaughan will start at CBS News August 1.

Before joining Bloomberg, Gaughan spent 12 years at Fox news Channel, serving in a number of roles including director of domestic news. It was at FNC where Gaughan first worked with David Rhodes, who was at the time the cable channel’s chief news executive. Rhodes would go on to work at Bloomberg as the head of Bloomberg TV, and earlier this year joined CBS News as president.

Writes CBS News VP Ingrid Cipiran-Matthews in a memo to staff: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Tim to the CBS News family where he will manage, recruit and train digital journalists as well as contribute to our fine Special Events unit under the leadership of Executive Producer Al Ortiz.

Tim comes to us from Bloomberg News where, over the past year, he served as Head of News Gathering, managing a large and diverse team of reporters, producers, and assignment editors, generating story pitches, and coordinating assignment execution.

Before joining Bloomberg, Tim spent twelve years at Fox News Channel, where he held a variety of positions, highlighting his strong talents in digital newsgathering and special events coverage.. From 2008 to 2010, he served as Director of Domestic News, overseeing all domestic news assignments and newsgathering coordination with Fox Business Network, Fox Radio, Foxnews.com, Fox EDGE & all Fox affiliates & partners. From 2006 to 2008, he served as Assignment Manager for the channel, coordinating not only domestic bureau activities, assignments, daily coverage plans, but also breaking news coverage with FNC resources in coordination with Fox EDGE, Fox affiliates & partners. Prior to that, he served as national Editor, Weekend Assignment Manager, and Political editor—managing coverage of political conventions and the 2000 election. In 2003, he spent a summer as Fox news Baghdad Bureau Chief.
