In what might have been a swipe at Chris Matthews and his comments last week; during today’s debate, co-moderator Maria Bartiromo asked Fred Thompson whether the government should step in to help out the struggling U.S. automotive industry.
Thompson said “No” and Bartiromo followed up with “why?” After Thompson’s explanation, Chris Matthews jumped in and said, “took him a long time, he said ‘no’ he should have stopped there, anyway.” To which Thompson replied, “Well, I didn’t ask your opinion Christopher.” The remark got a laugh from the crowd, and from Bartiromo, and drew a pause and an “okay” from Matthews before he went on the next question.
