‘This Week with Christiane Amanpour’ Debuts August 1st

Christiane Amanpour officially starts on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday August 1st. The network began running promos for the new iteration of the program during the NBA Finals.

In conjunction with the announcement of the start date, EP Ian Cameron says, “This is an opportunity to broaden the canvas to more thoroughly explore how the world impacts Washington and how Washington impacts the world,” which echoes sentiments Amanpour expressed to TVNewser back when she revealed the new gig.

She announced she was leaving CNN in March to take over the program, which had been without a steady anchor since George Stephanopoulos departed for “Good Morning America” full-time at the start of the year. ABC White House correspondent Jake Tapper had been filling-in since her signing. ABC News President David Westin says Tapper went “above and beyond” for the network, adding “We couldn’t have made it through this period of transition without him, and for that we’re grateful.”
