In our new Throwback Thursday video series, we take you way back to 2012 when our then-managing editor Donya Blaze talked to documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock.
Spurlock, whose CNN show “Inside Man” is back for a new season tonight, had some tips for reporters and beginning doc makers that we think are always relevant. Spurlock said the key to cutting good stories is to avoid falling in love with your footage. His follow up tip? Have another set of eyes look at your footage in case you do fall in love with your footage.
When asked if he thought technology has changed the quality of films being made today, Spurlock said, “There will always be a turd that rises to the top.”
