The Top Cable News Shows in May Were…

Fox News had the top 14 programs in total viewers and the top eight programs in the key A25-54 demographic in May 2014. As usual, “The O’Reilly Factor” was the number one program in cable news in both total and demo viewers, averaging 2,136,000 total viewers and 308,000 demo viewers. “The Kelly File” was second in total viewers, with 2,337,000, followed by “The Five,”  “Special Report with Bret Baier” and “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.” In the demo, “The Five” was second, Kelly’s program was third and Baier’s program was fourth.

CNBC was the only network other than Fox News to have a show in the top ten among the A25-54 demo: “Shark Tank,” which averaged 210,000 A25-54 viewers, placed ninth overall. “Shark Tank” also led CNBC in total viewers, averaging 442,000 viewers and placing 23rd overall.

MSNBC’s highest-rated show was “The Rachel Maddow Show,” which placed 14th overall in total viewers and 11th overall in the demo. Maddow’s program averaged 738,000 total viewers and 176,000 demo viewers.

“Anderson Cooper 360” was the top CNN program in total viewers and the demo, placing 21st and 19th, respectively. The show averaged 452,000 total viewers and 145,000 A25-54 viewers for the month.

“Forensic Files” led HLN in both ratings measurements, placing 38th in total viewers and 20th in the demo with 323,000 and 142,000 viewers, respectively.

The top-rated show in total viewers on Fox Business was “Imus in the Morning,” which ranked 89th overall. “Stossel” led the way in the demo, ranking 87th.
