The Top Cable News Shows in August Were…

Fox News had the top 14 programs in total viewers and the top nine programs in the key A25-54 demographic in August 2014. As usual, “The O’Reilly Factor” was the number one program in cable news in both total and demo viewers, averaging 2,703,000 total viewers and 462,000 demo viewers. “The Kelly File” was second in total viewers and the demo, with 2,245,000 and 409,000 viewers respectively. “The Five,” “Special Report with Bret Baier” and “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” rounded out the top five in total viewers; “Hannity,” “The Five,” and “Special Report” rounded out the top five in the demo.

MSNBC’s highest-rated show in total viewers was “The Rachel Maddow Show,” which placed 15th overall with 810,000 viewers. “Lockup” was the top show in the demo for the network, drawing 190,000 viewers.

“Anderson Cooper 360” was CNN’s highest-rated daily show in both total viewers and the demo, finishing 17th overall in total viewers and 10th overall in the demo. Cooper’s program averaged 708,000 total viewers and 242,000 demo viewers. “The Sixties,” whose weekly Thursday run ended in the middle of the month, drew the most total viewers for the network. The original series averaged 726,000 viewers.

“Nancy Grace” led HLN in both ratings measurements, placing 34th in total viewers and 31st in the demo with 400,000 and 138,000 viewers, respectively.

The top-rated show in total viewers on Fox Business was “Varney & Co.,” which ranked 77th overall. “The Independents” led the way in the demo, also ranking 77th. CNBC’s leader in both total viewers and the demo was “Shark Tank,” ranking 35th and 24th, respectively.
