The Top Cable News Programs in April 2018 Were…

Sean Hannity is the ratings king of cable news for the month of April.

Hannity finished the month ranked No. 1 among total viewers (3.3 million) and No. 1 among the A25-54 demo (678,000). Rachel Maddow finished No. 2 across cable news in both categories, and was followed in the total viewer rankings by Tucker Carlson Tonight, The Ingraham Angle, The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.

Rounding out the cable news top 10 in total viewers for April were Special Report with Bret Baier, The Five, The Story with Martha MacCallum, All In with Chris Hayes, and Hardball with Chris Matthews.


That’s six for Fox News, four for MSNBC.

If going by adults 25-54, which is the demo news advertisers traditionally base their ad spend on, Hannity and Maddow are followed by Ingraham, Carlson, O’Donnell. Hayes, Baier, The Five, MacCallum and The 11th Hour With Brian Williams.

Also six for Fox News, four for MSNBC.

Moving to the mornings, Fox & Friends marked 198 months as the No. 1 cable news program in its timeslot with an average of 1.5 million in total viewers and 334,000 with the 25-54 demo.

Fast forward to the afternoon at Fox News, Outnumbered Overtime anchored by Harris Faulkner delivered 1.3 million in total viewers and 274,000 with A25-54 while The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino averaged 1.3 million in total viewers and 265,000 in the 25-54 demo.

Anderson Cooper 360 was CNN’s most-watched show (No. 24 overall), followed by Erin Burnett Outfront (No. 27), CNN Tonight With Don Lemon (No. 28), and The Lead With Jake Tapper (No. 32).

CNN stacks up far more favorably when ranking cable news programming by A25-54 ratings. AC360 was the network’s top show in the demo this past month (No. 12), followed by CNN Tonight (No. 13), and Erin Burnett Outfront (No. 16), and The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer (No. 19).
