The Ticker: Fugelsang Show, ‘NY Med,’ Olympic Diss

By Alex Weprin

  • Current TV is adding another new primetime show hosted by a comedian. Following the announcement of Joy Behar’s new program, Current says it will add a show hosted by John Fugelsang in primetime. Fugelsang says his new show “will be an attack ad on apathy; taking the flag back from phony patriots, taking the Bible back from the hypocrites, and taking Bath Salts away from Glenn Beck.”
  • Despite being up against NBC’s coverage of the women’s team gymnastics final, which saw the U.S. take home gold last night, ABC’s “NY Med” managed to deliver strong ratings. The program drew 2.8 million viewers, improving on its lead-in by 17%, and actually gaining viewers as the hour went on.
  • Speaking of ABC, Bill Weir is in London covering the games for the network, and on last night’s “World News” he joked with Diane Sawyer about the “network that shall not be named” and its restrictive TV rights use. Of course, had ESPN/ABC won the games, it may have been a different story. Watch:
