“The Situation” Starts Tonight: Carlson Promises More Than “2 Guests Debating”

By Brian

The Situation with Tucker Carlson premieres tonight on MSNBC. I’ll have my interview with Carlson later today, but for now, a few excerpts from other stories:

> TV Week: “This is not a show that will ever have two guests debating each other. Ever. That is the form in cable news. We’re never doing that. Ever. That’s a worn-out format, and I’m not going to do that,” Carlson says.

> USA Today: He will still wear a bow tie.

> Chicago Tribune: “Yelling, not yelling, who cares? That’s not the point,” he said. “The problem with that kind of TV is that it can be phony. It’s inauthentic. It’s people reading other people’s lines. I’m not interested in institutional positions. I’m interested in heartfelt passionate points of view.”

> AP: “[MSNBC prez Rick] Kaplan hopes the show is a calling card for his version of MSNBC, smart programming filled with information that leaves viewers feeling like they’ve learned something new.”
