The Other President in the White House

FishbowlDC’s Patrick Gavin interviews White House Correspondents Assocation president Ann Compton in the mediabistro.com feature, “So What Do You Do?

Compton is ABC News’ White House correspondent, a post she has held since 1974, but her secondary role has gained the spotlight recently — this weekend is the Association’s annual dinner. Before the dinner planning, Compton completed the other tasks of the WHCA president:

I was stunned to discover how engaged the WHCA has become with WH operations. Some weeks I spend hours on selecting charter aircraft for press travel with the President, consultations on upcoming domestic trips, complaints about access and coverage at the White House and that’s before you start stressing over the spring dinner.

The dinner will be attended by upwards of 2,800 people, including President Bush and VP Cheney, Ben Affleck and Pamela Anderson. TVNewser will be there too, so check back for updates all weekend long.
