One of the big stories of the day so far (well, besides Miss USA’s tumble last night) on the news channels is this week’s controversial New Yorker cover depicting pretty much everything Sen. Barack Obama’s Fight the Smears web site is working against.
There’s the “Obama-muslim?” stereotype, a front-and-center “terrorist fist jab“…even a framed picture of Osama bin Laden in the background.
The Huffington Post’s Rachel Sklar talked to editor David Remnick about the cover, and he summed up the meaning: “The fact is, it’s not a satire about Obama — it’s a satire about the distortions and misconceptions and prejudices about Obama.” Oh, we get it.
