The Morning Ticker: NBC Latino, Mallon, NFL

By Alex Weprin

  • NBC News has formally launched NBCLatino.com, a Hispanic news and lifestyle site, which wikll have original reporting, as well as pull resources from MSNBC.com and NBC News programs. The site first launched in beta as a Tumblr blog, but is now expanding to a fully-fledged site, a la NBC’s African American news site TheGrio.com.

  • HLN has tapped Tim Mallon as its VP of programming and production. Mallon had been overseeing network operations, sales integrations, employee development as well as programming during In Session. He will continue to oversee those units in addition to his new role, which will focus primarily on HLN’s “special content unit,” which handles sponsored content and programming.

  • The NFL announced that Sunday afternoon football games on CBS and Fox will start 10 minutes later than in previous years: 4:25, rather than 4:15. The end result: look for CBS newsmagazine “60 Minutes” (and the rest of the CBS Sunday schedule) to be delayed even more often than it currently is. Set your DVRs accordingly.
