The Morning Ticker: Dunlap Retires, Mobile Ratings, 2014 Ads

  • Karen Dunlap, the head of the Poynter Institute, is stepping down in January. Dunlap has been the president of Poynter, the journalism training center, since 2003. “We need to take some big steps, and I think it’s time for somebody else to do that,” Dunlap told her staff.

  • Nielsen took another step in measuring the mobile TV audience. Nielsen will begin the process next month so that by the 2014-15 TV season TV content viewed on digital devices will be fully measured and used by clients.

  • The cable TV industry projects local cable TV ad spending at $680 million to $800 million for the 2014 campaigns. That’s about 25% of the total $2.4 billion in 2014 campaign ads expected to hit the airwaves. You’ve been warned!
