The First Police Chase of the New Year

By Chris Ariens

Fox News and MSNBC both carried a high speed pursuit in South Florida around NoonET. Both used the signal from Fox affiliate WSVN (which counts among its alumni Shepard Smith, Robin Meade, Rick Sanchez and Mike Tobin). NBC, which has an owned & operated station in South Florida, WTVJ, went with the WSVN signal. An insider says WSVN “graciously made the feed available” to MSNBC.

CNN still has a policy of not carrying car chases, leaving that to sister network HLN. WSVN is a CNN affiliate which is why HLN also carried the signal from that station. The pursuit wrapped up after the suspects, implicated in a bank robbery,  jumped out of the car, into some woods and then into a neighborhood where police caught up with them. They were taken into custody without incident.
