"The Fat Man" Finishes The 2011 L.A. Marathon

Despite a torrential storm and the 400 pounds on his frame, Kelly Gneiting finished the 2011 L.A. Marathon in nine hours, 48 minutes and 52 seconds.

Dubbed “The Fat Man,” Gneiting was attempting to set a Guinness world record for the heaviest person to complete a marathon. The sumo wrestler weighed in before the race at 400 pounds.

Before Gneiting can claim the record, Guinness representatives must review the results.

“I did it, but it was hell,” Gneiting told the Los Angeles Times shortly after crossing the finish line in Santa Monica. “Pure hell.”

Gneiting improved his time from the 2008 L.A. Marathon, which he completed in 11 hours, 48 minutes and 16 seconds.
