The Best/Worst Valentine’s for TV News Ladies

By Jordan Chariton

heartsIt’s not often we hear women who work in TV news dish about their love lives on-air, so. for Valentine’s Day, we asked them to do it for us.

“America’s Newsroom” host Martha MacCallum will never forget the look on her husbands face after she provided some liquid humor.

“My new boyfriend (we are now married 20 years!) came over for a drink before we went out for dinner. He asked me for a scotch on the rocks and I poured him a big wine glass full and put two ice cubes in it, because I didn’t have a clue how people drank scotch.”

FNC Correspondent Shannon Bream’s best V-Day snuck up on her thanks to a setup right before college graduation.

“I accepted a February 13th date with a handsome guy…he cooked me dinner, took me to a concert and held my hand. By the time I woke up on Valentine’s Day, I already knew I was falling in love.” (She was right…he’s now her husband, Sheldon Bream)

MSNBC “The Cycle’s” Abby Huntsman used to have a special breakfast with her mother and sisters on V-Day, but now that she’s married, sweat pants and wine are on the menu.

“My husband and I usually stay home and cook together on V-Day. Avoid the chaos. There’s something so romantic about just being home in sweats cooking dinner with a bottle of red wine.”

CNN “Crossfire’s” S.E. Cupp is also happily married, but had her fair share of Valentine’s blues growing up.

“There were many a Valentine’s Day in elementary school where, inexplicably, my adorable good looks and winning charm did not result in any cards from my fellow classmates,” she tells us.

And first grade was particularly unkind to her: “I ate so much candy I threw up all over my aunt’s living room furniture. That’s just a side note.” But she’s turned a corner on V-Day luck now that she’s married.

“Someone’s essentially contractually bound to give me cards and candy…which really means something.”
