The Audacity of Some Cable News Guests

By Chris Ariens

FishbowlNY has the story of Audacia Ray, a former sex worker-turned advocate for sex workers, who was approached by a booker from Dan Abrams‘s show Monday. She was being asked to participate in a segment on the Eliot Spitzer mess. On her blog, Ray writes, “They were casting for someone who had been a sex worker to talk about the mechanics of hiring a prostitute, and the producer I talked to point blank asked me the question [‘Have you been a whore?’], though then he quickly backtracked and said, ‘I’m sorry if I’m not using the right terminology,’ and I told him that no indeed he was not.”

MSNBC insiders tell TVNewser, the booker did not use that language, and that Ray’s blog entry “seems a tad overblown.” As it turns out, Abrams booked Heidi Fleiss for Monday’s show.
