Sunday Show Ratings: Week of April 29

By A.J. Katz

NBC’s Meet the Press with Chuck Todd continues to lead the Sunday show pack, and by winning April 29, it was the No. 1 Sunday public affairs show for the entire month of April.

With its April victory, MTP has now defeated ABC 11 consecutive months and CBS five consecutive months in total viewers. The NBC Sunday public affairs show defeated its competition by double digits across the board, no small feat.

On the down side, compared to the final Sunday of April 2017, MTP was -6 percent in total viewers and -16 percent in the news demo.

Moderated by Margaret Brennan (who recently announced on Colbert that she’s pregnant!), CBS’s Face the Nation finished No. 2 in total viewers, and No. 3 in the key news demo this past week. But the broadcast was -29 percent in total viewers and -30 percent in the news demo versus the same Sunday last year.

Now to be fair, then-Face The Nation moderator John Dickerson had created a lot of buzz on the comparable Sunday last year with his 100 days interview with of Pres. Donald Trump. Matching the ratings for that day was going to be an extremely difficult task.

ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos finished No. 3 in total viewers, but No. 2 in the key news demo on April 29, and was the only Sunday show to post year-over-year audience growth in any relevant category (+2 percent in A25-54). That said, the ABC Sunday show was -10 percent in total viewers from last year.

Season to date, This Week Is Beating Face the Nation in the key demo for the 3rd consecutive season and increasing its lead compared to last season to its largest in 18 years.

Hosted by Chris Wallace, Fox News Sunday was -15 percent in total viewers and -18 percent in the news demo versus the final Sunday of April 2017.
