Once again, it was NBC’s Meet the Press with Chuck Todd that finished No. 1 among the Sunday shows.
According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data for Sunday, Nov. 10, Meet the Press on NBC averaged 3.23 million total viewers, toppping ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos by +20% (+530,000) and edged CBS’ Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan by +10% (+298,000) in average total viewers.
MTP was also No.1 among viewers from the key A25-54 demo, beating ABC by +15% (+93,000) and beating CBS by +19% (+114,000) in that same demo.
An additional 1. million total viewers and ,000 A25-54 viewers watched MTP through rebroadcasts on NBC and MSNBC.
CBS’ Face the Nation (1/2-hour edition) averaged 2.94 million total viewers but 613,000 A25-54 viewers on Nov. 10. The 2.94 million total viewers is good for second place, but the 613,000 A25-54 total is third-most, behind NBC and ABC.
The aforementioned ABC’s This Week remains in second place season to-date among A25-54, and took second place in the demo this past Sunday. The Nov. 10 broadcast of This Week averaged 2.7 million total viewers and 633,000 A25-54 viewers.
Season to date, This Week leads CBS’ Face the Nation by +27,000 Adults 25-54 (674,000 vs. 674,000), leading the CBS program at this point of the season for the 4th time in the last 5 seasons. Additionally, the ABC Sunday show is cutting its season to date gap with MTP in the demo by 42%, its narrowest margin in 4 years.
The Nov. 10 edition of Fox News Sunday hosted by Chris Wallace on Fox delivered 1.29 million total viewers and 382,000 demo viewers. The trio of cable replays delivered 1.96 million total viewers and 289,000 A25-54 viewers. Altogether, that’s roughly 3.25 million total and 671,000 A25-54 viewers on Nov. 10.
Compared with the same Sunday in 2018, NBC was -5% in total viewers, while CBS was -7%, ABC was -10% and Fox was -12%. Among adults 25-54, NBC was -19%, CBS was -15%, ABC was -12% and Fox was -7%.
The Sunday shows have been down year-over-year throughout 2019, but the year-over-year losses in the demo this past week were worse than usual likely due to Sunday, Nov. 11 2018 being right after the midterm elections.
Perhaps we’ll return to seeing some year-over-year ratings growth in 2020, a presidential election year.
