Sunday Show Ratings: May 6

If it’s Sunday, it’s Meet the Press…winning in the ratings department.

The Chuck Todd-anchored program was No. 1 across the board for the third consecutive week with a broadcast which featured an exclusive interview with Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz, as well as interviews with Michael Avenatti and former U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul.

Not only did MTP finish No. 1 in all relevant categories this past Sunday, and earn its 21st consecutive victory among adults 25-54, but the program also posted growth in total viewers compared to the same Sunday last year, (+5 percent). That said, the show was -8 percent in the key A25-54 demo as younger news consumers continue to hop off the Sunday show train in 2018.

ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos finished No. 2 in all key categories. For the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks, This Week beat Face the Nation in all key categories, including total viewers, and has its largest season to-date lead in the demo over CBS since the 1999-2000 season.

But not all of the ratings headlines are glowing. The ABC Sunday public affairs show was -8 percent in total viewers and -1 percent in the news demo versus last year.

CBS, as mentioned, finished in third in the Sunday show ratings across the relevant audience categories. The Margaret Brennan-anchored program was -12 percent in total viewers and -11 percent in the A25-54 demo versus last year.

Hosted by Chris Wallace, Fox News Sunday posted nearly 1.2 million total viewers and 334,000 demo viewers on the Fox broadcast network. That’s a double digit drop off from the comparable Sunday last year.

The trio of cable replays delivered a combined 2.48 million total viewers and 531,000 demo viewers. Combined with the original broadcast, the May 6 edition of FNS delivered 3.67 million total viewers and 865,000 demo viewers.
