Sunday Show Ratings: June 17

By A.J. Katz

Not a great week on the Sunday show front, ratings-wise. At least not relative to the same Sunday last year.

After a week off due to preemption, NBC’s Meet the Press with Chuck Todd regained the No. 1 ranking across the board. In addition to being the most-watched Sunday public affairs show in total viewers, MTP also won in the demo most valued by news advertisers for its 24th straight broadcast, marking the program’s longest demo winning streak since March 2011. Yet despite the accolades, MTP was -7 percent in total viewers and -23 percent in the news demo versus last year.

Todd interviewed Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) as well as Kellyanne Conway on the program.

CBS’s Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan once again finished second in total viewers and No. 3 among adults 25-54. The program struggled to the same Sunday in 2017, -17 percent in total viewers and -16 percent among adults 25-54.

ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos ranked No. 3 in total viewers, and No. 2 in the demo, beating CBS in the category for the 12th consecutive week. The program’s +156,000 demo advantage is the largest over CBS in eight weeks and it now has its largest adults 25-54 lead in 18 years. On the downside, the ABC public affairs program finished third in total viewers, behind both NBC and CBS, along with being -5 percent in total viewers and -9 percent in the demo versus last year.

Fox News Sunday on Fox Broadcast was preempted due to FIFA World Cup, but the Chris Wallace-hosted program did air on Fox News. The three cable airings posted a combined 2.66 million total viewers and 517,000 A25-54 demo viewers.
