Sunday Show Ratings: June 10

By A.J. Katz

Meet the Press was prempted this past Sunday for the French Open Final, giving the other Sunday public affairs shows a chance to take over the No. 1 spot in the ratings race…at least for one week.

Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan took advantage. FTN was the most-watched Sunday politics program of the day, with Brennan anchoring from Washington and CBS Evening News anchor Jeff Glor checking in from Singapore in advance of the highly-anticipated Trump-Kim Jong Un summit. CBS News foreign correspondent Ben Tracy reported from Singapore as well.

Compared to the same Sunday in 2017 – which also featured a preempted Meet the Press – Face the Nation was -5 percent in total viewers and -10 percent among adults 25-54.

ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos finished No. 1 among adults 25-54, defeating CBS in the category for the 11th consecutive week. The ABC Sunday show is leading the CBS Sunday show in the demo season-to-date for the 3rd consecutive year. But the program was down year-over-year, -13 percent in total viewers and -8 percent in the demo.

Stephanopoulos led ABC News’s coverage, and anchored This Week from Singapore. Martha Raddatz reported live and was part of the panel.

Despite a third place finish, Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace had easily the best Sunday of the bunch, ratings-wise. With Wallace anchoring from Singapore, FNS on Fox was +12 percent in total viewers and +7 percent in the demo versus last year, with Wallace’s audience perhaps more fired up for the summit than viewers of the other Sunday shows.

The broadcast’s trio of of cable replays delivered 3.25 million total viewers and 620,000 demo viewers. Combined with the original Fox broadcast, FNS had 4.77 million total viewers and more than 1 million demo viewers on June 10.

Perhaps the most memorable part of the broadcast was when Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro‘s made the highly controversial comment to Wallace that Canadian pm Justin Trudeau “deserves a special place in hell” after Trudeau said Canada would stand firmly against tariffs that Trump plans to impose on Canadian steel and aluminum. (Navarro later apologized for the comment)
