Sunday Show Ratings: July 16

By A.J. Katz

NBC’s Meet the Press with Chick Todd was the No. 1 Sunday public affairs program on July 16.

TV’s longest-running show posted +23 percent total viewer growth and +14 percent growth in the demo versus the same week in 2016. One shouldn’t look too far into this year-over-year growth. The comparable episode last year was re-titled because of a 2 p.m. ET start time for MTP due to NBC Sports Group coverage of the Open Championship (British Open). That tournament will be held this coming weekend, and televised on NBC next Sunday.

With MTP in the mix this past Sunday morning, CBS, ABC and Fox’s Sunday shows posted audience losses from the same Sunday last year.

CBS’s Face the Nation with John Dickerson finished No. 2 in total viewers and No. 3 in the key A25-54 demo this past weekend.

ABC’s This Week was hosted by chief White House correspondent Jonathan Karl. The show finished third in total viewers and second in the demo. Season to-date, This Week is +1 percent in total viewers, and currently drawing its largest overall audience in 18 years– since the 1998-99 season.

Fox News Sunday hosted by Chris Wallace finished fourth in the key categories. Combining the trio of cable replays with the original broadcast on FOX, the 7/16 episode of Fox News Sunday delivered 3.8 million total viewers and 954,000 A25-54.

Pres. Trump attorney Jay Sekulow made the rounds on the Sunday show circuit, appearing on each the four English language broadcast Sunday shows, in addition to CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper.
