Here’s something you haven’t read recently: More than one Sunday show delivered over 1 million viewers from the ad-friendly A25-54 demographic.
Viewership among younger news viewers on Jan. 14 was undoubtedly spurred by Pres. Trump’s controversial immigration comments, including referring to Haiti and African nations as “sh*thole countries.” This dominated the Sunday show conversation on NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and Univision.
CBS’s Face the Nation moderated by <John Dickerson hauled in the largest total audience of the Sunday shows, with the 30-minute edition delivering 4 million total viewers. Dickerson’s final FTN is this Sunday. He’s moving to New York after being named co-host of CBS This Morning earlier this month.
The broadcast was -2 percent in total viewers, but actually +2 percent in the key demo versus the comparable 2017 broadcast.
Face the Nation’s second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 59.8% of the CBS affiliates.
NBC’s Meet the Press with Chuck Todd continues to dominate among adults 25-54, doing so again on Jan. 14. The broadcast also posted +2 percent growth in total viewers from the comparable one last year. MTP also won the D.C. market in total viewers, a status it has maintained every Sunday since March 22, 2015.
ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos delivered its largest total audience of the season (nearly 3.52 million), and managed to post year-over-year gains in total viewers (+3 percent), and perhaps more importantly A25-54 (+8 percent). This Week’s +8 percent growth in the demo is the most of the English language Sunday shows.
Hosted by Chris Wallace, Fox News Sunday on Fox broadcast was -9 percent in total viewers, but +4 percent in the demo versus last year. FNS’s trio of cable replays delivered a combined 2.38 million total viewers and 541,000 adults 25-54. With the original broadcast, the Jan. 14 edition of Fox News Sunday delivered 4 million total viewers and 1.07 million from the demo.
