Steve Bartman Documentary Scheduled for Fall 2011

By Noah Davis

The once-postponed Steve Bartman 30 for 30 documentary, Catching Hell, will air in the fall of 2011, Richard Dieitsch reports. (This on the heels of the news about the Fab Five one coming in March.)

Director Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Casino Jack and the United States of Money) wanted more time to work on the film. ESPN granted him an extension, and the documentary didn’t run during the initial set of 30 for 30 offerings.

In a way, that was brilliant marketing.Think about it: By postponing, the 30 for 30 franchise will get a kick next fall. Baseball fans – and yes, there still are a lot of them – have been looking forward to Catching Hell since it was announced. Even casual sports fans will be interested. Bill Simmons has constantly said how amazing the Bartman one is going to be (and he’s earned the right to say so after shepherding the series).

Move over Pony Express. There’s going to be a new most-watched 30 for 30 by next fall.
