In Sunday’s Providence Journal, Bill Reynolds profiles longtime “Voice of the Celtics,”Mike Gorman.

The Dorchester, Massachusetts native and his partner Tommy Heinsohn are one of the longest-tenured broadcast duos in the sports world.

How did he get his start? By making things up on a golf course. He tells Reynolds about covering a tournament in the 1980s where the only phone was in the clubhouse.

“We’d say things like here we are on the 14th fairway,” he said. “We just made it up. But no graduate school with the finest equipment could have given you that kind of experience.”

That’s ingenuity.
