Last night, Fox news Channel’s Shepard Smith appeared as part of the 9/11 Memorial Speaker Series in Manhattan. Smith talked about covering tragedies like 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, as well as about what journalists should do when it comes to separating opinions from pure journalism.
“If you are informed person on some level you should have an opinion, if you don’t, well that would be kind of weird and vapid and vacant, wouldn’t it?” Smith said, adding that “7 PM on the evening newscast is not the right place” for a journalist to be giving their personal opinions.

Smith does a weekly segment on his show called “The Rise of Freedom” which chronicles the efforts to build the Freedom Tower in lower Manhattan.
