Sheinelle Jones has been named news anchor of the weekend editions of the “Today” show. Jones, who joins NBC News from WTXF-FOX in Philadelphia, begins October 4.
“We are delighted to welcome Sheinelle Jones to NBC News,” said NBC News President Deborah Turness. “She is an experienced journalist, a fantastic reporter and a dynamic interviewer who will bring so much to Weekend TODAY and the entire NBC News team.”
Until March, Jones was co-host of “Good Day Philadelphia” at WTXF. In her sign-off she said, in part, “I am leaving ‘Good Day.’ I am going to be with my kids.” Her co-host on “Good Day” was Mike Jerrick, a former Fox News host.
Jones had been the co-host of “Good Day Philadelphia” for the last 9 years. Before that she was an anchor and reporter for KOKI-TV the Fox affiliate in Tulsa. She’s also worked as a morning anchor and reporter for WICS-TV in Springfield, Illinois.
Jones replaces Jenna Wolfe who last week was named lifestyle and fitness correspondent for the “Today” show.
