Shannon Sharpe Takes Leave Of Absence From NFL Today

NFL Today co-host Shannon Sharpe will take a leave of absence from the CBS Sunday pregame show due to a sexual assault allegation.

“I have decided to step away from ‘The NFL Today’ until this matter is resolved,” Sharpe said in a statement released by CBS. Sharpe appeared on the NFL Today last Sunday.

Depending on how long it takes for the court to resolve this legal matter, Sharpe could be off the network for the entire season.

Last week Sharpe was slapped with a temporary restraining order by Michele Bundy, who claimed the former NFL tight end forced her to have sex with him and threatened her life.

Atlanta’s Fulton County Superior Court ordered Sharpe to remain at least 200 yards away from Bundy and her immediate family at all times. A hearing in the case is set for Monday.

“We accept Shannon’s decision,” CBS Sports spokeswoman LeslieAnne Wade said in a statement. “Beyond that, we decline to comment on a pending legal matter.”
