Schieffer’s New Contract: “We Just Decided To Do It”

TVWeek’s Michele Greppi catches up with CBS’ Face the Nation anchor Bob Schieffer. Last week TVNewser reported Schieffer signed a new long-term contract with the network, after rumors of an impending retirement.

“Pat’s happy, and that’s important to me,” said Schieffer of his wife. “We just decided to do it.”

Schieffer and CBS news and sports president Sean McManus made clear the move was for his Face the Nation gig, and not a possible move back to his previous post as anchor of the CBS Evening News. “I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing,” said Schieffer.

“Bob is not just a standout at CBS News; he is a standout in all of journalism,” said McManus. “There just aren’t that many voices which are as instantaneously recognizable or that convey the experience, perspective and trust that Bob’s does. He embodies what CBS News stands for.”
