Schiavo: Cablers Monitor The Midnight Vote

At midnight, FNC continued to air taped programs, while CNN and MSNBC continued with live coverage. (Fox aired a 90-second update with Carol Iovanna in NY and Julie Kirtz in DC, then tossed to War Stories with Oliver North.) As 12am approached and passed, CNN and MSNBC spent less time talking and more minutes broadcasting the proceedings on the House floor. When the vote commenced at 12:20am, FNC’s live coverage resumed, and all the cablers broke out their breaking news chyrons…

> “This is the first values vote, essentially, since the election,” FNC’s Carol Iovanna said.

> On MSNBC, Kerry Sanders showed members of the media and a member of the Schlinder family gathered by a satellite truck in Florida…

> MSNBC’s late-night coverage looked great without a black ticker at the bottom of the screen…
