SBJ Unveils 2011 '40 Under 40.' Which Media Execs Made the Cut?

By Alex Weprin

One of Sports Business Journal‘s most hotly-anticipated features was released this week, with the publication of the trade magazine’s annual “40 under 40” list (subscription required).

The list ranks 40 sports executives under the age of 40 who are making an impact in their respective fields. Executives from sports properties, agencies, media companies and corporate partners are all included in the list.

So, which media execs made the cut?

Seven of the 40 worked for media companies, including Disney/ESPN’s Justin Connolly, Fox’s Mark Evans, Comast Sports Group’s Mark Grilly, SportsFanLive.com’s David Katz, CBSSports.com’s Jason Kint, NBA Digital’s Albert Vertino and ESPN’s Leah Buhl LaPlaca.

Some quick thoughts on the group: not surprisingly, digital is well-represented here, with four of the seven coming from that arena.

Leah Buhl LaPlaca is the wife of Chris LaPlaca, who oversees all corporate communications/PR for ESPN.

Eric Grilly’s dream job is to be a winemaker. Who knew?
