News Corp. and 21st Century Fox Chairman Rupert Murdoch congratulated Fox News on its 18th birthday yesterday. “Great achievement by Roger Ailes and wonderful team,” Ailes wrote.
It was only about 8 months before, in February 1996, that Murdoch recruited Ailes to start the Fox News Channel. Ailes had just left NBC where he was running “America’s Talking,” which was soon to morph into MSNBC. Nearly 90 NBC employees followed Ailes to Fox and in less than 5 years FNC become the most-watched cable news network, where it has been for the last 13 years.
