Rupert Murdoch on Election Night Coverage: ‘We Set the Gold Standard’

By Mark Joyella

Fox News chairman and chief executive Rupert Murdoch has congratulated staff at Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network for “phenomenal coverage” on Election Night. “We set the gold standard in the industry with our fine journalism, smart analysis and the most sophisticated screens on television,” Murdoch wrote.

For the entire night (7 p.m. through 3 a.m. ET), Fox News was the most-watched cable news network, with more than 12 million viewers. “This was the highest rated election night ever for both networks,” Murdoch said.

Here’s Murdoch’s full memo:

Colleagues,

Please join me in congratulating the entire team at FOX News Channel and FOX Business Network on last night’s phenomenal coverage. We set the gold standard in the industry with our fine journalism, smart analysis and the most sophisticated screens on television. After receiving universal praise from both sides of the aisle throughout the election cycle, our most important audience — the viewers — validated those sentiments and watched both networks until 3am eastern time in record numbers — nearly 13 million viewers for FOX News and one million viewers for FOX Business, which tripled CNBC. This was the highest rated election night ever for both networks.

Thank you to everyone for making last night one of proudest moments in the history of FOX News Channel and FOX Business Network, and most of all, thank you for all of the immense time, effort and dedication you have put forth over the last two years.
Regards,
