As Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has continued to criticize Fox News Channel in general and debate co-moderator Megyn Kelly in particular–even calling today for Kelly to apologize to him–Kelly herself has refused to be drawn into the fight.
As we reported earlier today, Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes did call Trump today, and now Ailes himself is confirming the conversation, in a statement released by the network:
“Donald Trump and I spoke today. We discussed our concerns, and I again expressed my confidence in Megyn Kelly. She is a brilliant journalist and I support her 100 percent. I assured him that we will continue to cover this campaign with fairness & balance. We had a blunt but cordial conversation and the air has been cleared.”
Ailes is known inside Fox News as a man who will move mountains for his people, and that includes supporting Kelly, who will address all of this on The Kelly File tonight.
Trump, meanwhile, will make appearances on two Fox News shows Tuesday, Fox & Friends in the morning, and Hannity in prime time.
